CELL LINES COLLECTION

General information:

Our cell line collection consists of 19 cell lines originating from different species and tissues. Cell lines can be supplied either as frozen or growing cultures. Genomic DNA extracted from the cell lines is also available.
Interested organizations/research teams may contact us by email: imb@sci.am.

A-498

Human kidney adrenocarcinoma cell line, an epithelial cell line developed in 1973 from the kidney of 53-years-of-old female with kidney carcinoma.

BHK-21

Baby hamster kidney cell line is the parent line of BHK-21(C-13) derived from the kidneys of five unsexed, 1-day-old hamsters in 1961.

HEK 293

Human embryonic kidney 293 cell line generated in the early 70s by transformation of human embryonic kidney cells grown in tissue culture.

HeLa

HeLa cells are the most widely used cancer cell lines in the world. These cells were taken from a lady called Henrietta Lacks from her cancerous cervical tumour in 1951.

HEp-2

Human epidermoid carcinoma cell line established in 1952. Derived from tumors that had been produced in irradiated-cortisonized weanling rats after injection with epidermoid carcinoma tissue from the larynx of a 56-year-old male.

Hep-3B

Human hepatocellular carcinoma cell line containing an integrated hepatitis B virus. Derived from the tumor tissue of an 8-year-old black boy with hepatocellular carcinoma.

HepG2

Human hepatocellular carcinoma cell linederived from the liver tissue of 15-year-old Caucasian male with differentiated hepatocellular carcinoma.

K-562

Human chronic myeloid leukemia cell line including erythroleukemia type myelogenous leukemia cells derived from a 53 year old female CML patient in blast crisis; established in 1975

KCL-22

Human hematopoietic Ph1-positive leukemic cell line derived from chronic myelogenous leukemia cells established in vitro by cultivation of pleural effusion cells obtained from 28-year-old Japanese woman with chronic myelogenous leukemia in blast crisis.

LN-405

Human glioblastoma-astrocytoma cell line established from an astrocytoma tumor (grade IV) of a 62-year-old Caucasian woman in 1986. Fibroblast-like cells.

MCF-7

Human breast cancer cell line isolated in 1970 from a 69-year-old Caucasian woman. MCF-7 is the acronym of Michigan Cancer Foundation - 7, referring to the institute in Detroit where the cell line was further established in 1973.

MRC-5

Normal human fetal lung fibroblast cell line developed in 1966 from lung tissue taken from a 14 week fetus aborted for psychiatric reason from a 27 year old physically healthy woman.

RD

Human rhabdomyosarcoma is the embryonic-type cell line established in 1968 from malignant embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma of a pelvis of 7-year-old Caucasian girl.

RT112

Human bladder carcinoma cell line isolated from urinary bladder of Caucasian male in 1995. Epithelial-type cells.

SH-SY5Y

Human neuroblastoma cell line [neuroepitelioma) established in 1978. The original cell line, SK-N-SH, from which it was subcloned was isolated in 1971 from a 4-year-old Caucasian girl with neuroblastoma.

SK-N-MC

Human neuroblastoma cell line derived in 1971 from the supraorbital metastasis of a neuroblastoma of 14-year-old Caucasian girl. Fibroblast-like cells.

SPEV

Swine kidney embryo cell line with epithelial-like morphology producing swine leukovirus; derived from the inner lining of the pig oviduct. Established in 1985.

U-2OS

Human bone osteosarcoma epithelial cells cell line, originally known as the 2T line, derived from the bone tissue of a 15-year-old human female suffering from osteosarcoma in 1964.

VERO

Verda Reno – green kidney. Embryonic kidney cell line initiated from the kidney of a normal adult African green monkey (Chlorocebus sabaeus) in 1962. Fibroblast-like cells.
